Hey, anyone else a Type 8 and struggle with being too direct in relationships? How do you soften the edges without feeling like you’re not being true to yourself?

Type 8 here! Staying true to ourselves while being gentler is tough. I find that focusing on the tone and delivery of what I say helps a lot. How do you currently manage your directness?

Hey there, I'm a type 8 as well and I totally understand where you're coming from! It's indeed a delicate balance between being assertive and getting directly to the point versus taking a softer, more nuanced approach that might feel less authentic to us. What I've realised is that being authentic doesn't mean we cannot adapt our communication style. It's not about being 'fake' but more about respecting the other person's way of receiving feedback or information. Everyone is different and good communication is about finding common ground. One approach that's worked for me is to consciously combine straightforwardness with empathy. When I voice my comments or concerns, I firstly acknowledge the other person's feelings or the effort they've invested. This way, I maintain my honesty while being tactful and considerate. Also, asking questions can be a great way to be both direct and also respectful. It allows the other person to have the floor and it invites a conversation rather than imposing a viewpoint. Remember, it's not about diluting your truths but presenting them in a way that maintains connection and relationship integrity. Hope this helps!

Hey! As a type 8 myself, I totally understand where you're coming from. Being direct or assertive is naturally part of our personality, but it's important to understand that there is a way to keep this trait without it seeming harsh or confrontational. One thing that's worked for me is to practice empathy. Before saying something, try to put yourself in the other person's shoes and consider their perspective. This doesn't mean compromising on your truth, but it's about presenting your thoughts in a way that is considerate of their feelings. Also, effective communication is key. You can be direct while still being kind by explaining your intentions before starting a conversation that could potentially be taken negatively. For instance, you could say something like, "I have something important to talk about and I want to be honest with you. I’m saying this because I value our relationship and want us to be open with each other." Lastly, remember it's okay to be transparent about your communication style. Let people know that being direct is your way of showing respect for their time and intelligence, as you believe they deserve the truth and straightforwardness. Balancing the response in these ways have made a huge difference in my relationships, and I hope they help you as well.

Howdy! As a fellow Type 8, I totally get you! 🤝 It's definitely tough trying to balance our directness with sensitivity. What I've found helpful is increasing my awareness about the other person's feelings and perspective. 🧠💡 Understanding that we all communicate differently can be a game changer. It doesn't mean you’re not being true to yourself, but rather you’re taking into account the dynamics of effective communication! 😄 Let's remember, it’s not always what we say but how we say it. 🎙️💬 So, try to take a moment before responding, practice active listening and express your thoughts with empathy and respect. You’re still you, just a more diplomatic version. 😎🕊️🌷

Hello! 👋 Fellow Type 8 here! ✨ It can definitely be a challenge to find that balance. One thing that helps me is practicing active listening 👂and showing empathy ❤️—trying to understand the other person’s perspective first. This way, when I do speak my mind, it feels more like a dialogue and less like a bulldozer 🚜. It doesn’t mean you’re losing your authenticity; it just means you’re also valuing the relationship. Finding the sweet spot between honesty and sensitivity can be a game-changer! 💬💞 How about you? What have you tried? 🌟
